Comment: Of course I love the site. And the farm. And the nutsy owners. And especially the manure spreader named after me. What are mothers for anyway? (And where is my yarn?)

Comment: Dear Kate, Unable to send you money as I too am on the high road to insolvency. Can't resist a pretty Icelandic face. Lucky you. We didn't even get tomatoes this year. Drought in Illinois. Love your sense of humor and your tongue in cheek approach to our farmer wannabe lifestyles. If you can handle the stress without the cash I would love to be your friend. Hugs, Holly P.S. Been doing this urban transplant thing for almost a decade and will try to help if you need it.

Comment: Kate: Your father (Jack) and my father (Al) were brothers so, that makes us cousins. And, your mother (Fredda) and my mother (Faye)encouraged me to visit this website to check-up on the goings on and,for sure, I now have concrete evidence that the Sparks clan is certifiably a few degrees off bubble!!What a wonderful, quirky place to hang out. Thanks for making the Sparks family proud, you are a treasure!!

Comment: You have one of the most entertaining web sites that I have read in a long time. Makes me want to order an Icelandic, but I already have angora goats and am still not sure I want to raise them, or just have llama geldings for fiber. Mohair has not turned out to be as soft to the skin as I would have hoped. Say, If you look on the website for usefullamaitems.com, they have a tool for llamas to remove the undercoat without removing the outer guard hairs. I wonder if it would work for your Icelandics? they use it on llamas that naturally shed that undercoat in the Spring. Keep up the good work; you will succeed. We have 11 acres, downsized from 20 acres, which turned out to be too much to handle whilst still working jobs.

Comment: Richard just sent your website address to me. What a wonderful surprise to hear your exciting doings! Once I work down the ginormous pile of both wool and roving that I've got to merely a large pile, I'll certainly want to give you some business. Please consider collecting your dogs' sheddings for spinning. I edged Larkin's favorite winter hat with a roll brim of Gt. Pyrennes somebody spun with a little wool for body. Looks great. All best to you.

Good Luck and keep smiling, it's contagious.

Comment: Hey, thanks for not minding the random evening phone call--and thanks for the encouragement. It's nice to know there's someone, even if random, who won't respond with "...you... want to do... what?" when the subject of farming (and root beer homebrewing) arises. Happy lambing, ~kate

Comment: Found the site whilst researching angora rabbits. What can I say, you are where I someday hope to be! I saw in your update that you've given up on breeding pigs because they're too large. Have you researched any of the heritage breeds? Some of them are considerably smaller than the modern swine. Some examples are guinea hogs, choctaws, pot-bellied pig (throw-away pet of the 90's), or a breed of miniature pigs that grow to as little as 25 Lb! Lots of options.

Comment: Dear Kate, Glad to see you back on the web, and hope that the offspring take-over will not mean the end of your literary input. You say things the way i would say them if I had the time to update my website. (Ha, Ha) Funny how that project started out so great and then just fizzled out. Always comes back to the Time factor, doesn't it? Anyway, I love your idea of U-pick goats, and may borrow it some time (if that's okay)for our lambs, depending on how many I sell this year. Have a great lambing/kidding season, and thanks for giving me a giggle so early in the morning. Hugs to all, Holly

Comment: Incredibly candid, witty writing. I just graduated (June 08) from an MFA program (sculpture) after several other careers of unsatisfaction. Will be poor whether I apply my degree towards a desk-job or not. Just bought 20 acres in the Pacific Northwest and my partner is a physician (we live on aforementioned acreage). Have 6 angora rabbits & an Old English Sheepdog now. Was daydreaming and found your site listed on a forfarmers website advertising the cashmere goats. Glad I know I'm not the only one dreaming about the same lifestyle - although my dreams are still incubating unlike yours- hatched. Congrats on that.

Comment: Thanks for the tour of the farm in the Rain!!! We enjoyed our visit and had a great dinner last night of chicken, duck eggs and hard boiled quail eggs (that we purchased from the farm). We made them all. We visited 8/27/08 and are from sunny Lighthouse Point, FL. We will visit the farm next year when we are again in Virginia.
